Place Value Game

Math Game:
This month in math we are working on place value. Here is a great game you can play at home. All you need is a deck of cards!

Instructions:

1. Remove Jokers and face cards from the deck

2. The dealer decides which number is the target number

3. Players take turns receiving a card from the dealer. If the target number is 100,000, players will quickly learn to not take more than 6 cards

4. Once everyone is happy with the number of cards they have, they change the order of the cards, to make the number closest to the target number (For example, if a player is aiming for 400, they may move the cards 9, 3, and 2, to be 3, 9, 2. Thus reading the cards as 392)

5. The player with the closest number to the target number wins, and becomes the dealer6. All players must read their cards aloud, and estimate how close they are to the target number
In grade five we are working on target numbers up to 999, 999. HAVE FUN!
